History of the Needham Youth Basketball League

History

History

The Needham Youth Basketball League (NYBL), known until late 2022 as St. Joseph's Basketball, is a recreational youth basketball program that was established back in the early 1990s.  At that time, the town had no such basketball program for kids in grades 5-8, so the program's founders saw a need to enable kids to play organized ball.  The founders worked closely with St. Joseph School to secure the school's facilities for the bulk of the program's needs, and the program was born!

For more than 30 years, our program has helped kids improve their skills, learn the game, and, most of all, have fun!  Over the years, we have strived to design our program such that players of ALL levels can develop their game, gain confidence, and work together as a team.

Our goal today, as it always has been, is to provide the best youth sports experience possible for ALL players.  We have heard from countless former players that are now in their 20s, 30s, or even 40s who still look back fondly at their time in our program, as they recall many great memories that they say they will undoubtedly remember for the rest of their lives.

Now as the NYBL, we will look to continue to provide Needham's kids with the best experience possible as they play basketball with their friends and peers, and create positive memories that will last a lifetime.
